Its realistic execution both suits its subject—the construction of a structure--and celebrates the building trade and craft that formed it. Cady has described all of his work as quiet, “a kind of distilled still life, a contemplation. A kind of dream moment created by plucking the subject out of its environment and focusing on it—studying it.” This “plucking” allows the viewer to see the isolated structure anew, as a pure object. Through his work Cady asks viewers to examine our physical environment in its many moods and by doing so to recognize “the emotional/ psychological/intellectual judgments we bring with our responses to [the world].”

Susan C.
